Check out some of the latest research in Contraception’s developing special issue on contraceptive access efforts!

CECA, Contraception journal, Elsevier, and a Guest Editorial Team jointly announce the release of new evidence: a special issue featuring original research articles and commentaries describing diverse approaches and future considerations for expanding contraceptive access. The collection covers policy, research, innovation, program implementation and evaluation, and measurement across statewide, regional, and national efforts. Building on the AJPH supplement published in June 2022, this issue prioritizes research reflecting varied perspectives and ongoing shifts toward equity, justice, and autonomy.

We deeply appreciate our colleagues – from national organizations, professional and academic institutions, and statewide contraceptive access initiatives – for their commitment to both improving sexual and reproductive health and disseminating critical insights. Look forward to recommendations and examples of actions you might apply in your work!

In this issue, you will find articles about implementing family planning state plan amendments, rethinking how we quantify the impact of contraceptive access, the association of over-the-counter contraceptive use and contraceptive autonomy, evaluating patient experiences, and more.

Read and share available articles now, and revisit the page over the next month for more publications. The full special issue will be available in print in early 2026.
